Fundraising!

On the 22nd of March our group held a cake sale at our university art campus at Sion Hill in Bath. Everyone in our group made a variety of cakes to sell. I and a fellow group member were there from 10am to 2pm running the sale together.
As a group we have already raised £112 from two cake sales which were held at Newton Park Campus.

At Sion Hill we raised £43.70.

I have been impressed with how much money our group has raised from our three cakes sales. We have now made a profit of £155.70.

Thank you to everyone that has supported us!

Promoting our group exhibition Esoteric Illusions!

This week I have visited as many galleries in Bath with the flyers for our exhibition. I left a few flyers in small galleries and gave a larger pile of flyers to the bigger galleries, which are more well known.

I have already run out of flyers......

As a group we have decided to print some more, to advertise our exhibition to more galleries!

Exhibition Esoteric Illusions at the Walcot Chapel Gallery!

This is a exciting exhibition I have been working towards for 6 months now.
I have been working in a group with 9 other art students.
Group meetings every week has helped us prepare for the exhibition.
Sponsorship from local companies and fundraising events has allowed us to fund the private view, which will be held on the 5th April 2011.

Other websites which feature the exhibition details and more of my work are displayed below.

Artist Statement.

I am currently in my second year studying Art and Textiles at Bath Spa University. These two creative subjects allow me to express myself within a range of different materials.  I have enjoyed the opportunity this course has given me to focus on the work I feel most passionate about; something which I feel is reflected through my art.

I specialise in hand and machine knitting which is influenced by the shapes and patterns of maps.  I use computer aided design to create my own patterns and knitted words in an efficient way. I enjoy mastering complicated patterns and experimenting with different types of wools and colours. The medium I use dictates the type of wool I favour. When using the knitting machine I prefer lamb’s wool and when hand knitting I prefer to use acrylic. The quality of these materials combined with my favoured techniques produces pieces soft in texture.

More recently I have been inspired by three dimensional forms, sculpture clothing and text and image.  Experimenting with different materials has developed my ideas through the use of recycled fabrics, wool, paper, wire and wax.

The artists which have influenced my work include Cat Mazza, Liz Collins, Ruth Cross and Lisa Anne Auerbach.

The Boros Collection Berlin!

The Boros Collection - The bunker Berlin.
This was the best exhibition I have ever visited!
I have never felt this way about a art exhibition before, every room of the bunker had a completely different piece of work. The location of the art had a great effect on me as I started to think about the history.
Nobody was allowed to take photographs, but we were allowed to to a few at reception.

Outside the bunker!

Graffiti on the bunker.

The artist which influenced me the most at the Boros Collection were Katja Strunz, Anselm Reyle, Olafur Eliasson and Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Beautiful Berlin!

After walking around different areas in Berlin I found there were constantly beautiful buildings, monuments and sculptures everywhere. This took me completely out of my comfort zone and showed me a fantastic city. All the history and art has influenced me greatly!

The TV Tower Berlin!

The TV Tower in Berlin gave me the most stunning views of the city, in 4o seconds the lift brought me to 203m.  I stepped out of the lift and felt very sick, this is because I am scarred of heights!
I overcame my fears after a while.................
This allowed me to take in the most amazing views of this on a inspiration city!

A view of 80km in all directions!

I love Berlin...............

Outstanding views........................................

Inspiring graffiti in Berlin!

Berlin City Tour!

The free city walking tour in Berlin was fascinating to learn about the history of the second world war. On the tour I visited a number of memorials and famous sights, which are displayed below. This experience has definitely had a impact on me as a person, it has also inspired my ideas for my art project, influencing me to create political art.

The Brandenburg Gate!

Memorials!

This was one of Hitlers buildings and today it has been turned into the tax office!
A building Germans still hate!

The Berlin Wall.............................

Inspiring history and stunning buildings everywhere..........................................

Hamburger Bahnhof Museum Berlin!

This was one of the most inspirational galleries I visited in Berlin!!!
These sculpture dresses are by a artist called Anselm Kiefer.
